What happens if bin areas are misused?

The bin stores at The Store House are shared facilities, so everyone is expected to use them responsibly and follow the building's waste disposal guidance.

Misusing the bin stores can create health, safety and cleanliness issues, as well as making it more difficult for other residents to dispose of their waste properly.

What counts as misuse?

Examples of misuse can include:

  • Leaving rubbish on the floor or beside the bins.
  • Putting waste into the wrong bin.
  • Leaving furniture or bulky items in or around the bin store.
  • Placing batteries, electronics, vape devices or other restricted items in the standard bins.
  • Leaving waste in corridors, communal areas or outside your apartment.

What happens if there's a problem?

Where necessary, the Resident Team may investigate issues relating to misuse of the bin stores and take appropriate action to help maintain the building's standards.

If repeated misuse can be linked to particular residents, the team may contact those involved to discuss the issue and remind them of the correct waste disposal procedures.

The aim is to keep the waste facilities clean, safe and accessible for everyone.

Helpful tip

If you're unsure how to dispose of something, ask the Resident Team before putting it in a bin. It's much easier to get it right the first time than to deal with incorrectly disposed waste later.
