How soon do I need to set up utilities after moving in?
If your Enclave rent doesn’t include all utilities, it’s best to set up your accounts as soon as you move in. This ensures accurate billing from your tenancy start date and avoids any issues with estimated charges.
Recommended timeframe
-
Within the first few days: Contact the suppliers provided by the Enclave team to register the accounts in your name.
-
Meter readings: Take and submit your opening meter readings immediately on move-in day. This prevents you from being billed for usage before your tenancy began.
-
Council tax: Register with the local council promptly (unless you’re exempt, such as being a full-time student).
Why it matters
-
Accurate bills: Avoids paying for previous tenants’ usage.
-
Continuity of service: Ensures your gas, electricity, and water accounts are properly linked to you from day one.
-
Legal requirement: Council tax must be registered in your name unless you’re exempt.
Helpful tip
Even if you’re planning to switch suppliers later, you’ll still need to register with the existing providers first. Once the account is set up in your name, you can then arrange a switch.
