What goes into the general waste bins?

General waste bins at Enclave are for rubbish that cannot be recycled or composted. These bins are collected regularly as part of your building’s waste service.

Common items for general waste

  • Plastic bags, cling film, and wrappers.

  • Polystyrene packaging.

  • Nappies and sanitary products.

  • Food-soiled containers that can’t be cleaned.

  • Broken household items that aren’t recyclable (like crockery, small textiles, or sponges).

  • Pet waste and litter.

  • If food waste collection isn’t provided: Food waste should go into securely tied bags and be placed in the general waste bins.

What not to put in general waste

  • Recyclables: Paper, card, plastics, metals, and glass should go in recycling bins.

  • Food waste: If your building has a food waste collection, use that instead.

  • Hazardous waste: Batteries, electronics, chemicals, and paint must be disposed of through special collection points, not general waste.

Helpful tip

Always check the bin store signage — some councils have specific restrictions, and following the on-site guidance helps keep collections smooth.
