Are there restrictions on disposing of certain items?

Yes — at Enclave, some items must not be placed in the general waste or recycling bins because they need special handling.

Items not allowed in household bins

  • Batteries and electronics: Must go to recycling points or council collection services.

  • Hazardous waste: Paint, chemicals, fluorescent bulbs, and solvents require specialist disposal.

  • Large items: Furniture, mattresses, carpets, or bulky appliances need special collection services (see bulky waste guidance).

  • Construction waste: Materials from DIY projects, such as plasterboard, bricks, or tiles, cannot go in household bins.

Why restrictions exist

  • Safety: Hazardous items can be dangerous if mixed with household waste.

  • Recycling integrity: Wrong items can contaminate recycling collections.

  • Waste management: Large or unsuitable items can block or damage bin store facilities.

Helpful tip

If you’re unsure about an item, ask the on-site team or check local council guidance before disposing of it.
