Are there restrictions on disposing of certain items?
Yes — at Enclave, some items must not be placed in the general waste or recycling bins because they need special handling.
Items not allowed in household bins
-
Batteries and electronics: Must go to recycling points or council collection services.
-
Hazardous waste: Paint, chemicals, fluorescent bulbs, and solvents require specialist disposal.
-
Large items: Furniture, mattresses, carpets, or bulky appliances need special collection services (see bulky waste guidance).
-
Construction waste: Materials from DIY projects, such as plasterboard, bricks, or tiles, cannot go in household bins.
Why restrictions exist
-
Safety: Hazardous items can be dangerous if mixed with household waste.
-
Recycling integrity: Wrong items can contaminate recycling collections.
-
Waste management: Large or unsuitable items can block or damage bin store facilities.
